Honeybees and the ceanothus shrub
As I posted last week, the main attraction for bees in the garden right now is the Ray Hartman ceanothus shrub. In the above photo is another honeybee. Look at the two full pollen "baskets" behind its wings!
Last Sunday there were so many honeybees on the shrub that I couldn't resist, and made a short video with my camera of the activity going on. It's not the greatest video but it certainly gives you a good idea of the bee activity as well as the sounds in the garden right now. There is so much buzzing in the plants, while in the background you hear many different songs of the birds as they are building their nests - sparrows, oak titmice, chickadees, finches, etc.
