Another honey bee gathering and concentrating pollen on its body
Peek- a - boo!
I observed another honey bee gathering pollen off its head to concentrate the pollen. This time it is on a Marmalade Skies rose leaf. See how its head is on the side of the leaf, starting to bend that part of the leaf.
Raking the pollen off its face with its forelegs.
Almost done!
As I wrote the other week on another post about the same kind of behavior in a honey bee, I think that the bee is gathering pollen collected on its body and concentrating the pollen into its baskets. But from what I've read so far, this complicated pollen maneuvering is performed mid-air! I've contacted the UC Berkeley Urban Bee Lab to verify that honey bees also rest on leaves to complete the process.
I'll keep you posted!
