Birds finding tasty treats

A brown-eyed bushtit was very busy finding tasty insects on the Penelope rosebush. It is perched on a rose stem eyeing its target. To the right are stems of the coastal redwood.

And here the same bushtit is eating insects in that same rosebush.

Here a California towhee, seen from behind, is picking at a spent dandelion head. Its head is tilted toward the left. This Spring I have truly begun to understand the importance of leaving dandelion plants alone, not to pull them out. Several weeks ago I observed a cabbage moth feeding on the nectar of one of these same dandelion plants.
