here come the bees

How wonderful it is to hear the buzzing sounds of busy bees in the garden!

Above is an image of a honey bee approaching a Sapphire Salvia spire.

And here is a male carpenter bee approaching another Sapphire Salvia spire.

I've noticed that these bees are calmest either in the morning or late afternoon.

That is when they systematically feed on the salvia blossoms, moving from a lower blossom to the blossoms at the top of the spires.

During the warmest hours of the day, between 11 am and 3 or 4 pm, the carpenter bees circle around the plants constantly, and hardly ever land.

A wool carder bee here is approaching a lambs ear head full of lovely blossoms.
