A honey bee and nasturtium flowers

On a very breezy afternoon this past weekend I observed this honey bee hovering around the nasturtium flowers. It would try to land on a nasturtium. And then the wind would pick up, so the bee ended up hovering again.

During a lull between the gusts of wind, the honey bee could land on a nasturtium flower.

And finally straight for the nectar!

Apparently nasturtium nectar is exceptionally sweet, and consists mostly of sucrose.

The nectar guide stripes are darker orange on the top petals.

The nectar of these flowers is also enjoyed by hummingbirds, who have long enough beaks to fit into the spur in the back of each flower.
