Harvest!

There is nothing like picking your food fresh from the garden.

And this is the time of year when so much can be grown and harvested.

On the platter in the photo above are just a few of the Meyer lemons that are ripening on the tree in the backyard. Not only are they so lovely and cheerful to look at, but oh so juicy and sweet!

We don't grow a lot of produce, just what we really love to eat.

All the vegetables and herbs are growing in large pots.

Here is what I harvested yesterday as part of our dinner.

Cucumber and cherry tomatoes for the salad, and the Little Finger eggplants as part of the main course.

Up until now I've never been successful growing eggplant.

But this Little Finger eggplant is very productive, thriving in the sun.

The eggplant should be picked (best cut with kitchen shears) when they are 3 to 6 inches long.

They are tasty and cook very quickly.
