Tidy Tips and the Flower Fly

We bought four Tidy Tips Layia platyglossa seedlings in October.

Tidy Tips are native California plants, considered inconsistent or low-attractor plants.

I planted them in the front yard and figured they would be dormant until early Spring.

Two of the plants are in bloom already.

This means that bees can already find nectar and pollen here.

A flower fly spent a lot of time among the flowers of one of the Tidy Tips plants, especially on this flower.

Here is another flower fly resting on a dried flower stem in the front yard.
