Rolling in the pollen
The California alba poppies are getting their second round of leaves and blossoms of the season.
And look who is literally rolling in the poppy pollen, a yellow-faced bumble bee Bombus vosnesenskii . These bees are sometimes so large and fuzzy, they are almost like little teddy bears.
See the distinctive yellow stripe near its bottom.
Round and round it rolls.
Here you can see the yellow hair on the top of the bee's head, as it faces downward.
I love to see bee antennae.
Here the bee is curled over the center of the poppy.
You can see both the yellow hair on top of its head and the yellow stripe near its bottom.
And here it is again from another angle, on another alba poppy.
