California Scrub Jays are back

This is the first time I've seen a California Scrub Jay visiting the birdbath.

Now that the mockingbirds have nested and raised their young, we don't hear or see them often. Their full repertoire of songs and constant screeching are now replaced by the scrub jays' occasional screeches.

This scrub jay isn't quite a fully developed adult because it still has a lot of gray feathers, and the blue feathers aren't yet the rich azure blue of an adult.

The jay took a few sips of water before it flew away.
