Why I am grateful for every insect that I see in our garden
This article about the massive decline in the insect population is a reminder why we all need to do our part. More habitats should be created in our gardens, no matter how small, for insects and birds. The use of pesticides of any kind must be stopped.
I used to despise wasps, but I understand that they have an important role in the garden, too.
They are part of the clean-up crew to control the pest population (such as greenfly) and they are pollinators, as well.
I still see many umber skippers in the garden, but not as many bees as we see in the late spring through early autumn. Instead there are wasps.
