Winter blooms

When the sun is shining, it's such a delight to walk in the garden and observe plants slowly but surely producing new growth.

For example, here is the first blooming tricolor gilia.

These lovely native Californians reseed very easily.

This will be the first year that I won't need to purchase any of these plants because I can already see the native garden full of tiny gilia sprouts.

When they are in full bloom they create a lovely meadow, a-buzz with many kinds of bees.

It's so interesting that the borage plants are still thriving, with flowers.

I planted them in the summer and they never stopped blooming.

In the past, when we were living in another part of the Bay Area, borage plants would start to sprout in the early spring, be in full bloom throughout the summer, then dry up in the fall.

Since the plant constantly produces nectar this is a great food source for the bees this winter.
