More birds back for the winter
I'm always on the lookout these days for birds who are back from the tundra to spend their winter here.
The Golden-crowned sparrows always announce their arrival whistling their absolutely beautiful mournful songs. Generally that's the first sign of their presence around our garden. Before I even see them, I hear their song.
This, an immature one, was resting on a branch of the California figwort shrub.
The hermit thrushes are also back. Look at those long feet.
And, as I've observed in the past, they are often in the bird bath, usually the last ones in toward the end of the day.
