California poppy sprouts
You may remember from earlier posts this year, the lovely islands of California poppies that grew in our front yard.
I left most of the dried stalks alone, as the flower pods popped, dispersing their seeds around the mother plant.
Now that we have had entire days of rain showers, alternating with sunny and dry weather, pleasant surprises await in the yard. Here is one of the dried poppy plants that produced for months beautiful clusters of blooms, surrounded by a sea of a new generation of sprouting poppies.
Here is a closeup.
All of those grassy green shoots are little California poppy plants, each one just a half inch high.
These are some of the California poppy islands in the yard this past May.
Just imagining what the yard will look like next spring and summer when all of the poppy islands are even wider!
