Lovely blooms in the rain

Yes, it's raining again, and the raindrops are decorating the blossoming plants around the garden.

I planted a native Baby Blue Eyes Nemophila menziesii in a pot on the patio, where Sweet Alyssum Lobularia maritima seeded itself from previous years. The Baby Blue Eyes plant is a common annual herb of California, Oregon, and Baja California, and attracts bees, moths, butterflies and other beneficial insects.

Our lovely Blue Bush Lupine Lupinus propinquus unfortunately didn't survive the heat of last summer, even though it was growing in a large pot.

However, both Silver Bush Lupines Lupinus albifrons that are also growing in pots, are thriving, full of foliage. This is the first stalk blooming on one of the lupines.

It is native to California and Oregon, and is a specific host to the Mission Blue Butterfly. It also attracts other butterflies, bees and birds.

This is the first time our Bee's Bliss sage is blooming in several years.

We had this plant growing in our previous garden. Well, let's just say it survived, but only just.

In its new home, in our front yard, the plant has grown ten times in height and width.

And look at these lovely flowers!

It attracts bees, hummingbirds and butterflies.

Fifteen years ago, I planted freesia bulbs in several pots just because I think they are so lovely and have a delicious scent. And every spring they bloom, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies.

Previous tenants planted calla lilies around our upper backyard.

They are so beautiful and resilient.
