Migrating geese

Late yesterday afternoon I heard bird calls nearby.
I looked up at the sky to see this.
A flock of Canadian geese flying by.
I thought they were migrating, but why fly north in October?

Here they are flying in v formation.
Around 8 o'clock in the evening I heard more geese flying by.
I don't think I have ever personally experienced a flock of birds flying at night.
It's very exciting to experience.
